SSE Renewables
SSE Renewables is a leading developer and operator of renewable energy and is the UK and Ireland’s clean energy champion. SSE Renewables owns 117MW of operational onshore wind capacity in NI including the 73MW Slieve Kirk Wind Park outside Derry City, and the 34.5MW Tievenameenta Wind Farm and the 9MW Bessy Bell 2 Wind Farm, both in County Tyrone. Part of SSE plc, SSE Renewables is investing around £7bn to 2027, or almost £4m a day on average, to support the delivery of SSE’s Net Zero Acceleration Programme to address climate change head on. This includes plans to increase installed renewable energy capacity to around 9GW by 2027, including the delivery of the world’s largest offshore wind farm in construction.

North Channel Wind
North Channel Wind is a prospective floating offshore wind development in the North Channel of the Irish Sea. Our two projects, North Channel Wind 1 and North Channel Wind 2, are off the eastern coast of County Antrim and north-eastern coast of County Down. The projects would represent one of the largest energy infrastructure investments in Northern Ireland this decade, and would be the largest renewable energy generators in Northern Ireland. North Channel Wind is a wholly owned subsidiary of SBM Offshore, with front end development work being carried out by NMK Renewables Limited. |

Electricity systems across the world are changing. At SONI, we have the crucial task of transforming the electricity system to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and support Northern Ireland’s clean energy and climate action goals. That means we have to make changes to our grid infrastructure and how we use it to introduce more and newer forms of renewable energy.
