Energy Systems: Storage 2019
02 December | Eversheds Sutherland, London | Organised by RenewableUK and Solar Trade Association
Our Energy System: Technology at a Tipping Point
Renewable generators are producing more power than ever. In 2018 wind and solar accounted for a record 22% of the UK’s electricity and this is set to grow as costs continue to fall. With more in variable renewable generation, flexible technologies and storage will play an increasingly important role in balancing and supporting the system, providing a range of services in a flexible, distributed electricity system.
The storage market is changing rapidly – we now have around 700MW of batteries on the system, alongside GWs of pumped hydro. Costs continue to fall and radical new technologies are coming to market, giving opportunities for companies to create new services and business models. Where do we go from here?
At this conference, we will:
- Discuss the current state of the market. Project developers will share lessons learnt and what works
- Host a “Dragon’s Den” of emerging technologies. While Lithium ion dominates the market, hear the pitches from new technologies
- Explore the state of large scale physical and chemical storage, and the route to market for long term storage of renewable power.
