SSE Renewables

SSE Renewables is the leading developer, operator and owner of offshore wind energy across the UK and Ireland, with almost 3GW of consented or in construction projects in UK and Irish waters out of a total development pipeline of over 6GW.

SSE Renewables successfully secured 15-year contracts for 2.2GW of new offshore wind energy in the UK Government’s most recent auction for low carbon power in 2019. Our multi-billion-pound investments in new offshore wind energy are helping to drive a cleaner, more resilient economy by pursuing a green recovery from coronavirus.

We’re building some of the biggest offshore wind developments right now, including the 3.6GW Dogger Bank Wind Farm in the North Sea with our joint venture partners Equinor which will be the world’s largest offshore wind farm when complete in 2025/26. We’re also building the 1,075MW Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm, a joint venture with our development partners Total, which will become Scotland’s largest offshore wind farm when complete in 2022/23.

In Ireland where an offshore wind energy market is emerging we’re developing the 520MW Phase 2 of Arklow Bank Wind Park in the south Irish Sea, and targeting delivery by 2025 to meet Ireland’s target of 1GW of offshore wind energy by the middle of the decade.

We’re also exploring the blue seas around our islands to identify new sites with the potential to develop new offshore wind farms utilising fixed and floating technology.

Our operational offshore wind portfolio consists of 579MW across three offshore sites around Great Britain, two of which we operate on behalf of joint venture partners.

Part of the FTSE-listed SSE plc, we own and operate the largest portfolio of installed renewable energy across the UK and Ireland, with around 4GW of offshore wind, onshore wind and hydro plant generating low carbon energy for customers across both islands. Our strategy is to drive the transition to a net-zero carbon future through the world class development, construction and operation of renewable energy assets.
