Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult

ORE Catapult was established in 2013 by the UK Government and is part of a network of Catapults set up by Innovate UK in high growth industries. It is the UK’s leading innovation centre for offshore renewable energy.

Independent and trusted, with a unique combination of world-leading test and demonstration facilities and engineering and research expertise, ORE Catapult convenes the sector and delivers applied research, accelerating technology development, reducing risk and cost and enhancing UK-wide economic growth.

Active throughout the UK, ORE Catapult has operations in Glasgow, Blyth, Levenmouth, Aberdeen, the Humber, the East of England, the South West and Wales and operates a collaborative research partnership in China.

ORE Catapult has established the Floating Offshore Wind Centre of Excellence (FOWCoE) to develop an internationally recognised initiative to reduce the cost of energy from floating wind. The FOWCoE has developed an initial core work programme across four workstreams: Technology development, Supply chain and operations, Development and consent, Delivering Net Zero.

SSE Renewables

SSE Renewables is building more offshore wind energy than any other company in the world right now. Part of the FTSE-listed SSE plc, the leading developer, owner and operator of renewable energy is currently constructing the world’s largest offshore project, the 3.6GW Dogger Bank Wind Farm in the North Sea, a joint venture with Equinor and Eni, as well as Scotland’s largest offshore site, the 1.1GW Seagreen Offshore Wind Farm in the Firth of Forth, a joint venture with Total.
