Energi Coast

Energi Coast is the North East of England’s Offshore Wind Cluster. Made up of more than 30 key regional businesses and stakeholder organisations involved in offshore wind, the group works to showcase the vast supply chain capabilities in this sector within North East England, promote the region as a key hub for servicing both the UK and International offshore wind markets and address the themes arising from the sector deal announced in early 2019.  The cluster is made up of Developers, Ports, Supply Chain, Skills & Academia, Innovation & Research Organisations and the two Local Enterprise Partnerships. Each Energi Coast participant acts as a regional Ambassador for offshore wind and is committed to ensuring the cluster has a strong voice to represent the supply chain and this vibrant industry which has huge economic benefit for North East England. The North East of England region has been active in the offshore wind sector since the inception of the industry. The first UK offshore wind farm built in 2000 and subsequently the first successfully decommissioned in the UK is located off the coast of Blyth, Northumberland and, to date, supply chain companies from within the region’s cluster have been involved in the vast majority of offshore wind farms globally.

OW Ocean Winds

OW is a new company is a 50:50 offshore wind joint-venture, owned and created by EDPR and Engie in 2019. Both companies believe that offshore wind energy is becoming an essential part of the global energy transition, leading to the sector’s rapid growth and increased competitiveness. That is why they have included all their existing and pipeline offshore portfolio in the new company.

OW has a strategic advantage and is well positioned to play a leading role in the offshore market. EDPR and ENGIE are combining their offshore wind assets and project pipeline in the JV, starting with a total of 1.5 GW under construction and 4.0 GW under development, with the target of reaching 5 to 7 GW of projects in operation or under construction and 5 to 10 GW under advanced development by 2025. OW primarily targets markets in Europe, the United States and selected geographies in Asia, from where most of the growth is expected to come.

OW have been at the forefront of the drive to deliver floating offshore wind.  Early investment in the WindFloat 1 prototype led to the recently completed 25MW WindFloat Atlantic project.  This experience means that OW are confident floating technology is ready for commercial-scale deployment.
