 Equinor

Equinor is developing as a broad energy company, building a material position in renewable energy. Equinor now powers more than one million European homes with renewable energy from four offshore wind farms in the United Kingdom and Germany, and will also operate Dogger Bank, the world’s largest offshore wind farm currently under construction.
Equinor is developing significant offshore wind clusters in the UK, the US North East and in the Baltics. The company commissioned the world’s first floating offshore wind farm in 2017 off the coast of Scotland and is positioned for future floating wind options in several geographies, including UK, Norway and Asia. It is also a leader in both carbon capture utilisation and storage (CCUS) and hydrogen, and is developing a number of projects in Europe, including in the Humber and Teesside regions of North East England.

Equinor has been in the UK for over 35 years, and supports the UK economy by investing billions in crucial energy infrastructure, working with over 700 suppliers across the country working to secure a long-term energy supply. Its energy supplies from Norway meet more than one quarter of the UK’s demand for natural gas and around one fifth of its demand for oil, both produced with one of the lowest carbon footprints in the industry. Its Mariner oil field is one of the largest upstream investments in the last 10 years in the UK and started production in August 2019.

ESB

Electricity Supply Board (ESB) was established in 1927 as a statutory corporation in the Republic of Ireland under the Electricity (Supply) Act 1927. With a holding of 95%, ESB is majority owned by the Irish Government with the remaining 5% held by the trustees of an Employee Share Ownership Plan.  As a strong, diversified, vertically integrated utility, ESB operates right across the electricity market: from generation, through transmission and distribution to supply. In addition, ESB extracts further value at certain points along this chain: supplying gas, using our networks to carry fibre for telecommunications, developing electric vehicle public charging infrastructure and more.

ESB is a leading Irish utility focused on providing excellent customer service and maintaining our financial strength. We have a regulated asset base of approximately €9 billion with 43% of electricity generation capacity in the all-island market. We currently supply electricity to approximately 1.4 million customers throughout the island of Ireland. ESB Group employs approximately 8,000 people. ESB more recently entered the UK energy market with the launch of ESB Energy. Our mission is to bring sustainable and competitive energy solutions to all customers and our vision is to be Ireland’s foremost energy company competing successfully in the all-island market.

ESB has been active in offshore wind in Ireland and Great Britain in the last two years. In Ireland, ESB has acquired up to a 35% stake in Oriel Offshore wind Project with Parkwind and have entered a development partnership with Equinor to develop fixed and floating wind projects off the Irish Coast. In the UK, ESB the acquisition of a 12.5% shareholding in the Galloper Wind Farm and in 2019 have purchased 50% share in the 448MW Neart Na Gaoithe (NNG) offshore wind farm project. ESB is also actively seeking further offshore wind farm opportunities in both Ireland and the UK.

OW Ocean Winds

OW is a new company is a 50:50 offshore wind joint-venture, owned and created by EDPR and Engie in 2019. Both companies believe that offshore wind energy is becoming an essential part of the global energy transition, leading to the sector’s rapid growth and increased competitiveness. That is why they have included all their existing and pipeline offshore portfolio in the new company.

OW has a strategic advantage and is well positioned to play a leading role in the offshore market. EDPR and ENGIE are combining their offshore wind assets and project pipeline in the JV, starting with a total of 1.5 GW under construction and 4.0 GW under development, with the target of reaching 5 to 7 GW of projects in operation or under construction and 5 to 10 GW under advanced development by 2025. OW primarily targets markets in Europe, the United States and selected geographies in Asia, from where most of the growth is expected to come.

OW have been at the forefront of the drive to deliver floating offshore wind.  Early investment in the WindFloat 1 prototype led to the recently completed 25MW WindFloat Atlantic project.  This experience means that OW are confident floating technology is ready for commercial-scale deployment.

Shell

Shell has played a vital role in powering the UK’s industry, transport systems and homes since the founding of Shell Transport and Trading over 120 years ago. Today, we are one of the world’s largest independent energy companies, operating in more than 70 countries. Central to our success for more than a century has been our ability to innovate and adapt to changing customer needs which will continue to be important as we move towards a lower carbon energy system. Our aim is to thrive through this energy transition by reshaping our company to provide the mix of lower carbon products that our customers will need in the future.

Shell established its New Energies division in 2016 and is looking to develop, construct and operate offshore wind farms, including floating wind, where we can use our offshore operational expertise. Shell invested in pioneering floating technologies such as Principle Power and partnered with Makani to demonstrate their energy kite from a floating platform. Alongside partners SOT and RWE, Shell is developing the Tetraspar demo project. Shell recently acquired Eolfi to further bolster our floating wind expertise and added the Groix Belle Ile pilot wind farm project to their portfolio. Shell's offshore wind portfolio includes operational and development projects and will have a total installed capacity of over 6GW once constructed
