The rapid expansion of the UK Offshore Wind sector over the coming years including further potential from pipeline projects is a great good news story for UK PLC. When set alongside the global ambitions for offshore wind and marine technologies – the opportunities are immense. However, this positive story comes with an increasing recognition of the challenges and responsibilities that will be needed for preventing and minimising injury, harm and loss throughout the lifecycle of every windfarm project. While increasingly sophisticated design standards and a safety culture that demands continual improvements in health & safety performance will always be the main drivers for change – the reality for any complex project is that emergencies remain a potential risk and so need to be properly planned and prepared for.

This seminar provides a structured overview of the critical areas essential to the development and implementation of emergency response plans suitable for offshore wind and marine projects. While based on the new UK guidelines - they are highly relevant to projects in all jurisdictions. The seminar will cover the main obligations placed on clients and duty holders covering the construction and operational phases. It will highlight main practical duties and requirements for developing and implementing effective emergency response plans based on the Integrated Offshore Emergency Response. Topics include:

  • Key principles underpinning Emergency Planning
  • Legal Duties and Standards
  • Roles and Responsibilities of duty holders and others
  • Medical preparedness
  • Search & Rescue Interfaces
  • Onshore preparation (e.g. Reception centres)
  • Media handling
  • Structure and format of response plans
